Nothing is set in stone at 6. But the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says kids' money habits and norms really start taking shape between ages 6 and 12. That's a lot of kitchen-table moments to practise in.

A note from the founder
It started with a real need at home. I wanted to give my kids a first taste of basic economics: money, saving, spending and investing.
Every feature came from a moment when I needed a better tool. When I gave them their allowance in real coins, they spent it all on ice cream the same day. Virtual coins aren't as easy to spend, and I can tempt them to invest and earn a little more.
Going anywhere with toys used to mean a huge tantrum if I didn't buy something. Now I offer them the chance to buy it themselves with their own coins, or I simply tell them they don't have enough yet and need to keep earning and saving.
My kids want coins, so rewards motivate them, and warnings teach them that actions have consequences. Random tasks were my oldest son's idea — he was thinking about how to earn more coins. Daily tasks came later as a Family feature for routines.

Feed the dog, make the bed, read for 10 minutes. You decide what counts.
When a task is done, the coins land in their wallet. Then talk about what to do with them.

The ages when kids' money habits and norms really start taking shape.

Most kids already understand what money is: they can count it, know it's earned and know it's swapped for things. Information alone doesn't stick; experiences do.

In a long-running New Zealand study, more self-control in childhood was linked with fewer money problems as adults, even after accounting for IQ and family background.

of US parents feel at least somewhat reluctant to talk about money with their kids. You're in good company.
